nailing steve cohen? charlie: i do not think people are focused on the fiscal cliff. they will not be focused until you see the market sell off. the market believes there will be a deal. until the market trade-off -- adam: we have a guest who will be talking about that a little later on as we get closer to the end of the year. the investigation is still underway. charlie: when you see the market trade-off you watch people freak out. interesting thing about steve cohen, there is no more remarkable trader out there than this guy. say what you want to about him. if you look at his returns, i think he started in 92, one down here. he is up this year, so far, 10%. that is why the feds are after him. i have been speaking to a lot of people with the fpi. long-term returns, consistent and less volatility. what they do, generally, they look at returns, pretty much steady returns, not a lot of volatility. you look at steve collins return, one down year. you look at warren buffett. he destroys profits over that period of time. buffett has more volatility and returns. steve cohe

were developing severe illnesses, many of which we had no treatment for. steve pieters: as i was pastoring the metropolitan community church of hartford, connecticut, and in 1981, we began hearing stories of this new gayancer and gay men getting a strange form of pneumonia. when i started getting sick in 1982, they still weren't quite sure what to call it. they hadn't discovered the virus. they could tell my immune system was severely deficient, but i didn't have any of what were then the five defining diseases of aids. well, the most important thing in investigating a new disease outbreak is to determine, in fact, is it really a new disease outbreak? is the disease new? is it occurring with greater frequency? who's affected by it, and where will it go? what are the horizons of the epidemic, if it's an epidemic? so the most important thing for us initially was to construct a case definition for what is now called aids. so it was decided that we would define aids on the basis of certain illnesses that were never seen in normal people that must somehow be part of this epidemic.

a deal. steve liesman with results of our cnbc fed survey. what are they saying? >> sue, i'm afraid it's not good news. our survey, they think the probability of recession is going up. most of that is because of fiscal cliff. can you see here the current probability, 28.5% we'll have a recession in the next 12 months. we had a low in march of almost 20%. that compares with a high. remember the debt ceiling debate of 36%. that chance going up. i want to show you in detail what dan greenhouse wrote in with his response in the survey. if the cliff is triggered and the cuts/tax increases remain in place for several weeks or worse, several months, it's hard to construct a scenario where the u.s. economy is not in recession. this is what's interesting here. recovering from that recession is not as simple as fixing the cliff's issues. the u.s. economy is not a light switch. you don't turn it back on. so the question, will we go over the cliff? on the first, looks like no, we won't go over. we'll avoid it. 41% say, yes, we'll go over, 46% say we won't. look at this, 13% don't know. we talk abo
